And They're OFF!

As I write, hundreds of boxes of cards are flying to all corners of the globe, spreading the word about food forests and, hopefully, inspiring new projects on the ground.

If you supported this project through Kickstarter, your cards should be arriving soon.  There were a few supporters who did not send me their addresses. They should feel free to contact me through Kickstarter so that I can get their thank you gifts into the mail.

I will be taking the month of August to recuperate before launching the cards to the general public, through this website and through retail locations.  So, if you know of a museum store, botanical garden, nursery, farm stand or gift shop that might be interested in carrying these cards, please direct them to this website in early September. If you have friends who missed out on the Kickstarter campaign, please let them know that the cards will be available after my vacation.

Thanks again to my hundreds of supporters and friends who made this project possible. We would be nowhere without you!

Cheers,
Karl

I look forward to many games as my wife and I discover the many connections that exist in our garden!

  3. I missed the Kickstarter but would love to buy one. Is there a place I can purchase the game?

  5. So excited to see this up and running on your own page! I was one of the kickstarters, and LOVE playing this game.

When you decide to release an expansion (perhaps with layers, and diverse permaculture plant families, to be used garden design tool, *wink wink nudge nudge*) I will simply plan on throwing money at you.

Seriously. I'm hooked on this as a game, and as a teaching tool.

  6. Skot (and everyone)! Thank you! You just made my morning!

By the way, layers do exist on the cards. If you look at the bottom of each card, you will find the forest layer (etc) to which they belong. For example, the trees are either canopy or understory, etc. I still need to incorporate these layers into some card games (I am working on that - along with a thousand other things). I think of them kind of like "suits" on ordinary playing cards (you know: diamonds, hearts, spades, clubs) and am thinking of using them to create some suit-oriented games (I discuss this on the Permies.com thread mentioned below). I hope this enriches your experience.

I have received so much good energy from this project from great people like you. It is heartening to know that people are excitedly using these decks to spread the good word!

As I hinted above, there is now a Permies.com forum thread on the topic of game creation: https://permies.com/t/61704/Food-Forest-Card-Game-Game

It would be really helpful if people would frequent this thread and share the ideas they have for games to play with the cards. I really want game ideas to evolve into a community project since, being only one guy with limited hours, my attention is spread pretty thinly.

The cards are kind of like a shared toolbox for building Permaculture games. With enough builders, the game possibilities are virtually limitless.

Also, every time someone enters a comment on that Permies thread, it gets bumped up to the top of the list of forums. This supports the game, and makes it more likely that I will eventually have the time to create some of those ad-on expansions that people have requested (*say no more, say no more* :)

    Cheers,
    Karl
