Appreciation

Few projects are completed in seclusion.  Most, if not all, draw inspiration and resources from the community in which they are designed.  The ideas that I've collected into this game came not just from my own observations and experiments, but also from research and study of others' techniques and experiences.  At times it is impossible to quite know how I first learned about nitrogen fixing bacteria, but it was a joy and a surprise when I first realized that I could pull up my own clover and see the pale, round nodules on the roots.  I don't know where I found out what ladybug larva looked like, or just when I stopped removing the strange looking nymphs from my plum trees, but I definitely didn't figure out the connection myself!

Other lessons are easily attributable to individuals.  Geoff Lawton's lessons on swale building were particularly helpful.  Bill Mollison's writings  about Permaculture Zones are equally ingrained in my consciousness.  It would be fair to say that these two individuals, and the knowledge that they've shared, have been invaluable in my preparation of the Food Forest card collection.

Beyond inspiration, there are those who have actually committed time and talent to this project.  First among these is my graphic artist friend Carl Mitsch who, although I tried to sick him at least twice, insisted that he was not my employee and, thus, could not be fired!  Without Carl's skillful, gentle, patient guidance, these cards would be no better than hazmat signs.

My dear friend Susan Aaron is to be credited with the first design that looked truly professional.  From that first inspiration, the current template evolved into what it is today.  Thank you so much, Susan!  You put me on the right track.

Many other people have given support, suggestions and guidance along the way.  To name some would be to exclude others.  Suffice it to say that I really appreciate all of the guidance and support that my community has given me.

Thank you!

  3. "Good Earth and Gardens," my Facebook Page, has just posted about this. I'm happy to do so occasionally, and to "share" on other social media. The thanks all go to you, Karl, for your perseverance and love of the forest garden.
